A trip to remember, one for the books. We left at 6:00 pm to capture the comet NEOWISE in the dark Catskills skies. It was amazing watching the comet fade into view in the Northwest sky as the sun set and twilight started. You could clearly see the comet and it’s long tail arching across the sky with your naked eye, which was an incredible sight to see. After shooting the comet, we shot the Milky Way and ended up getting home around 4:00 am, closing out our ten hour adventure.
Here is a shot of the comet NEOWISE rising over a reservoir in the Catskills, NY. This shot consists of 35 individual shots (8 second exposure, f/1.8, ISO 6400 with 50 mm lens) stacked in Sequator to reduce noise and finally edited in LightRoom. I couldn’t believe that I was able to capture the fork in the comet tail; the white tail is a dust trail and the blue tail is an ion trail.
